What To Expect At Your San Antonio In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

Before you determine what window treatment to order, some companies, like Sunburst, send out a rep for an in-home consultation. By bringing the treatments to you, we can present how different window treatments would work in your room. You’ll find how easy it is to find the best window treatment when you leave the sterile showroom.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how will meeting a representative in your home allow you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Even though every in-home consultation is personalized, there are some things that you should see.

Walking Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

People looking at samples of window treatments.

Start by making an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already can picture the perfect coverings for you window, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make sure to show you some options available for your preferred product. We will also offer other options, so you can feel confident that your windows match your vision.

After we come to your house, we’ll sit down and discuss what you need in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll pay special attention to hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also inquire about how the room is used and what aesthetic you are trying to attain. We want to execute your final vision, so the more information, the better.

We might show you many different window treatments to find out which coverings fit into your decor and enhance your windows. Most clients want to explore a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the perfect stain to coordinate with the room. We’ll also find all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once you make your pick, we’ll get precise measurements of your windows. We will typically measure the windows throughout the house—even if you only need to buy window treatments for some of your windows. We do this because most of our clients want to order future shutters or blinds without another consultation. Finally, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Poor In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are convinced that Sunburst will carry out compentent in-home consultation, there are some things you should never witness from any window treatment rep. It should go without saying, the quality of the consultation mirrors the quality of the window treatments.

First, your rep should be careful and professional. The rep should show up when promised, with all samples requested, and offer to protect your floors with shoe booties. Your rep should always give you product and company brochures and pricing details.

In regards to pricing, you should be given a complete written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, jotted down on a blank page or the back of a business card. And always reject pricing information before they take any window measurements. You should always be able to follow how much product and installation should cost. Finally, check references and online reviews before you place an order.
